I decided to try my hand at gardening again after last have a vegetable garden in College 35 years ago (I remembered that with a lot of work). After some online research I Mel Bartholomew squarefoot found garden method appealed to my inner geekdom. Bartholomew method is based on the construction and gardening in the four-foot by four-foot plots/boxes. It contains information about planning the optimal mixture of soil, manure, and added to correspond to what you they want to grow. After using the method for three years, I am a sold.
The method requires you know nothing, not you have to be very useful, is inexpensive, takes a minimal amount of space and water, is very practical and detailed, can be easily completely organic, requires minimal weeding and, best of all, results in lots of fresh vegetables. What could you ask more? The other books I looked rows required soil preparation, fertilizing and weeding or not focus on the basics.
