"serpico" Director Sidney Lumet dies

Sidney Lumet, Director of classic films including Serpico, Dog Day Afternoon and network, died at 86, reports the New York Times.

The newspaper said his daughter-in-law has confirmed the death and said that the cause was lymphoma. He died at his home in Manhattan.

Leader of Lumet film career began with twelve men angry in 1957 and spanned six decades, ending with the film of 2007 before the devil knows you're dead.

He received appointments to the Academy Director Awards for the best for twelve men angry, 1975 Dog Day Afternoon, network of 1976 and 1982 the Verdict, but he went empty-handed each time.

However, Lumet received an Oscar in 2005 honour for what the The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, called "brilliant services to screenwriters, performers and the art of the motion picture".
