I returned from a trip to Hawaii with my family. We spent most of our time on Maui but we have a daytrip to the island of Molokai, which is century known for his leper colony of Catholic priest named Father Damien (by ferry).
Molokai is very underdeveloped compared to Oahu, Kauai, Maui and big Iceland, with a population of only 7,000 people. I took some pictures during our short visit to this beautiful and interesting island and I will post about Molokai later this week, but I wanted a highlight parts: the post-A-nut-service offered by the Hoolehua post office. Here you can a free coconut and mail, unpacks, anywhere in the world just by writing an address unboxed and glue on postage stamps.
The post office is located in the center of a farming area and has two characters on the outside of the building advertising its post-A-nut-service.
The Postmaster, Gary Lam, greeted us warmly and apologized for not with enough coconuts to choose from, although it about a dozen available in plastic garbage cans on the ground. (No other customers were in the post).
He went in the back and brought poured a large mail sack and a further dozen coconuts in the storage.
My children three coconuts and tags chosen from a box of the performance counter used to decorate and address it to their friends and relatives.
Note that the coconuts are free of charge, but only if you one from the post mail. Seems fair to me!
Postmaster Lam told us that the post-A-nut was started 20 years ago and more than 50,000 coconuts mail was post office from his. (It costs about $10 to a coconut in United States ship.)
Although the ferry ride was so rough to Maui that my 8-year-old juice vomited a geyser electric blue popsicle, said she, the post-A-nut experience in the value that was complaints. I agree!
