San Francisco entertainment Commission proposed all bars, clubs and venues should be asked to photograph and gather ID from each, for a drink or a show in comes. The photos and personal information would be maintained so that police could get a list of every person, that night was at the Club. Aside the (obviously) fourth amendment problems leave Governments collect huge databases of the probably innocent inherent legitimate activities and movements, this is also a security nightmare, in which thousands of Club staff and their friends have access to personal information, that would be of great interest for stalker, Creeps and identity thieves.

Electronic Frontier Foundation present their criticism of this proposal from the Commission in a public session tonight (12 April). You can also and let the Commission know what you think.

With strong cultural, ideological and political components are frequent events in places that would be affected by these rules. Scanning the ID's organization would have to all participants in an anti war rally, a gay night club or a fundraiser for a civil liberties a deeply chilling effect on speech. Participants may hesitate to participate in such events, if their participation have been taken, stored, and made available to government authorities upon request note. This would turn the politically and culturally tolerant environment that San Francisco is known in a police state.

We are deeply disappointed in the San Francisco entertainment Commission to classify the so disturbing, authoritarian and poorly thought-out rules. The Commission should reject this attack on our fundamental freedoms. San Francisco can not hope, remain a hub of cultural and political activity, when we are withdrawn at the moment our freedoms, the we to through the door of a place of foot.
