Hakko.jpegFor someone soldering station is looking for a high quality at a reasonable price of the Hakko 936 hard to beat. I've been looking for a few years had and use especially for electronics and instrument cable work. I think I paid new for this, and the price around $80 included a separate cast metal pencil rest with a tip integral sponge pad wipe.

The power supply is a transformer, controlled by a rheostat Castle in Celsius and Fahrenheit mounted on the front. The only other control is on / off switch mounted on the right side. There is one red LED pilot lamp lights up on the front, only if relationships is actually on the pencil is applied. The pen cable connector to a 5-pin female connector and lock, the in of a threaded collar. The extra wires go up to the Summit for a thermocouple in the vicinity of the tip for precise and stable temperature control.

The pencil itself is very compact and on a light, flexible silicone rubber insulated cable is connected. The top-heated will quickly turn on the device on and set the temperature on the dial. The user is informed if the desired temperature is achieved, which is LED out. During a soldering session is the LED enable and disable, be observed as set temperature is exactly respected.

There is nothing special about you such as a digital display temp; only a solid, no nonsense, precise and stable soldering tool. Before he thought this unit, I am soldering as something of a chore. I can do with the Hakka, precise, quality soldering with minimal effort. The manufacturer has set the 936 recently, but they seem to still be available to eBay.

[Note: the Hakko 936 was replaced by the newer and more FX-888, but still find new and used online.-OH]
